Barcelona scored 4 players out of 5 before the league… and a “bad luck” star
A source in the Spanish Football League told Reuters that Barcelona
registered 4 of its new players ahead of its opening match of the season
at home to Rayo Vallecano on Saturday.
Strikers Robert Lewandowski and Rafinha, midfielder Frank Casey and
defender Andreas Christensen are now available to face Rayo Vallecano,
although Frenchman Jules Conde still needs a permit.
Barcelona had to meet the league’s salary cap to register new contracts,
but several “economic levers” including new investment deals released
the funding after the final lever was activated.
Barcelona will have to break free from the so-called salary block to register
the 23-year-old French defender Conde.
League restrictions also affected players who renewed their contracts at
the end of the season, but striker Ousmane Dembele and midfielder
Sergi Roberto were both registered.
Barcelona uses many mechanisms to increase its revenues in order to
compensate for losses, reduce debts and meet the rules of financial fair
play applied in the Spanish League.
And the Catalan club said last night that it had sold a 24.5 percent stake
in its audiovisual production company to Orpheus Media for 100 million euros,
with a view to raising more funds.
And Barcelona sold another 25 percent stake in the same company to digital
services company Socius.com, which provides fan codes, also last month.
