Ahead of the upcoming meeting between the two European
giants in the Champions League quarter-finals, Bayern Munich
CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed the German team’s plan
to stop the danger of Barcelona’s Spanish star Lionel Messi.
The Bavarian and Catalan teams meet, on Friday, in the third
quarter-final matches of the tournament with its shortened
system, after returning from a months-long hiatus due to
the spread of the new Corona virus in Europe.
Rummenigge said that Bayern Munich will rely on its young
defender Alfonso Davis to address the invasions of Messi,
Barcelona’s first star and the focus of the team’s danger.
Rummenigge believes that the 19-year-old Canadian
“is capable of controlling Messi.”
Davis joined Bayern Munich in January 2019 from Vancouver,
Whitecaps, and quickly established himself as a key player in
the coaching coach Hanzi Flex in the left-back position.
Rummenigge told Sky Sports: “Alfonso had a great season and
he deservedly deserved the title of the best young player in
the German league.”
He continued: “If Messi plays on the left side (for Bayern),
Alfonso will take care of him. It will be a difficult but exciting
task. Davis has not been dribbled or overlooked much this season.”
Davis has drawn great attention this season with the German
champions, having appeared 43 times in all competitions,
scoring 3 goals and making 9 assists.
The two sides of the first semi-final have been determined in
the Champions League, where Leipzig will meet Paris Saint-
Germain, while the winner from the Bayern and Barcelona
meeting collides with the winner of the French Olympique
Lyon and Manchester City match.
