Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola said striker Sergio
Aguero will miss Olympique Marseille’s visit to the European
Champions League on Tuesday due to a hamstring injury and
may stay out of play for a period of two to four weeks.
Aguero was knocked out at half-time during a 1-1 draw with
West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday, and
Guardiola confirmed that the 32-year-old striker had a muscle
problem one week after his first primary appearance of the
season following knee surgery.
Guardiola told reporters, “It depends on the injury and he may
be absent for a period of between 10 days and 15 days at least or
3 weeks or a month. And when you leave 4 or 5 months due to
a knee problem, you run the risk of returning to the injury.”
“We tried to deal with the matter as much as possible by relying
on it for 50 or 55 minutes in matches, but this was not enough
to preserve it,” he added.
He continued: “We knew that he was not in the best condition
against Arsenal, but in the absence of the attackers it was
important to play for 60 minutes and we must be steadfast and
hope that he recovers as soon as possible.”
Guardiola confirmed the readiness of midfielder Kevin de
Bruyne and defender Emeric Laporte for the match in France
and the approach of newly signed defender Nathan Aky and
striker Gabriel Jesus to recover and return to play.
And he continued, “Nathan is close to returning, and Gabriel
needs 7 to 10 days to return.”
