Paraguay police said on Saturday that they arrested
Ronaldinho Gaucho, the Barcelona striker and former
Brazil national football team, for trying to enter the
country with a false passport.
Gilberto Fleetas, head of the Paraguayan police
investigation unit, reported that Ronaldinho and his
brother were seized only hours after the judge refused to
agree to a proposal to impose an alternative sentence on
the retired player after admitting guilt.
Ronaldinho’s lawyer, Adolfo Marin, had earlier denied
that the talented star and his brother had used false
documents to enter Paraguay.
“We have set out to charge several people. Ronaldinho
and his brother provided information of interest to the
investigation,” Delphino told the media, and then they
were taken out of the case.
According to Interior Minister Okledis Acevedo, the
police raided the hotel where the Golden Ball winner
resides in 2005 in the capital Asuncion, where he is
promoting a book, and found a fake passport made in the
Paraguayan capital a few months ago, adding: “We are
also investigating the authorities’ responsibility for
Allow them to enter the country with false documents. ”
A Brazilian court had denied Ronaldinho his passport at
the end of 2018, for not paying a $ 2.5 million fine
against the backdrop of building a sidewalk without
permission on the edge of a lake in a protected area of
Porto Alegre, according to local media.
