Juventus veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon broke the Serie A
record by competing at the age of forty-two, facing his team
against his neighbor Turin, Saturday, in the thirtieth stage.
This is the 648th match for goalkeeper Buffon, beating the left
back of former Milan team Paulo Maldini.
Buffon, who had a single season with Paris Saint-Germain,
before returning to “Bianconeri”, extended his contract this
week for an additional year with the title holder in the last
eight years.
And this is the eighth participation of Buffon in the league this
season, in light of the coach Maurizio Sarri’s reliance on Polish
Wojciech Chicheny.
Buffon reached his number 25 years after his beginnings in
“Serie A” with Parma, and 19 years after signing for the firs
t time with Juventus.
“The fact that I keep playing is because I feel good and feel able
to do better,” Buffon said in a direct interview on Instagram,
Thursday.
And the 2006 world champion continued: “When you have
room to improve, you have this flame inside you.”
Buffon also holds the record number of posts with Italy in 176
internationals, despite his retirement in 2018 after failing to
qualify for the World Cup Russia.
