Leeds United soccer star Norman Hunter has joined the
constellation of stars who have died from infection with
the new Coronavirus at the age of 76.
“Lloyd was taken to hospital last week after being
diagnosed with COVID 19,” club Leeds, who is currently
in the first division, revealed in a statement on its official
website.
Although he continued to fight and the great effort made
by the medical team, he, unfortunately, lost his battle
earlier this morning. ”
Hunter became famous for his strong interventions as a
defensive heartland, and he played more than 700 games
with Leeds during the most successful era for the club in
the late sixties until the mid-seventies under the
leadership of coach Don Reve, where he crowned him
with the former first division title twice, and the England
Cup once, and reached with him to the Cup final
European Champion Clubs in 1975 and European Cup
Winners’ Cup in 1973.
Hunter was in the England squad when he crowned his
only world title in 1966 at home, and with “Three Lions”
won third place in the 1968 European Cup, and he played
a total of 28 games with the national team.
