Brazilian club Flamingo announced on Monday that its
coach, George Jesus, was infected with the Corona virus
and placed in quarantine in Rio de Janeiro, while doctors
are conducting a second examination to confirm his
infection.
“Yes, the result of the examination was positive and I
feel completely normal. My feeling today is my feeling
last month and last year. There are no symptoms but the
test was positive,” the Portuguese coach wrote in his
Instagram account.
“I will remain quarantined. I think I will return to my
normal life in a week or two,” he added.
Jesus, who led Flamengo last year to win the Brazilian
Football League and Libertadores Cup titles, said he was
under the care of the club’s medical staff.
In a statement on Monday, Flamingo described the test
result as “positive, weak or inconclusive” and said he
would take a second test for his coach.
The club suspended all training for the first team and
junior teams for a week.
The announcement comes on the same day that the Rio
de Janeiro state championship competition was
suspended for 15 days.
Jesus had criticized the Rio State Football Association
for allowing matches to be played early this week, and
said players and administrators were “not supernatural”
and needed more care.
