Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne announced that he
had entered into negotiations with his English football club to
extend his contract, confirming his desire to remain in the team.
The Belgian has a contract until 2023, but the 29-year-old, who
joined from Wolfsburg in 2015 for 44 million pounds ($ 72.77
million), wants to stay longer.
“I’m happy in Manchester City. I’m in a great club with great
owners,” De Bruyne told a television station before Belgium’s
2-0 win over England in the European Nations League on Sunday evening.
He added, “We have entered into some negotiations that are not
advanced. At the moment I am doing the negotiations myself.
I would like to stay in the club so it is easy.”
“If I do not want to stay there will be a need for a mediator. But
if I want to stay, it is not difficult,” he said.
De Bruyne won the Premier League title twice with City, and
won the Professional Players’ League award for the best player last
season after scoring 13 goals, and equaling a record by making
20 goals in one season.
