Microsoft has not yet introduced a virtual reality console
to Xbox, unlike the main competitor Playstation and
Playstation VR, as Microsoft previously confirmed that
virtual reality is not the primary focus of the Xbox
players at the present time. Does this mean that
Microsoft was short-sighted about this technology?
This is what Jesse Schell, president of Schell Games,
told wccftech about this:
Companies like Microsoft have nothing to pay for the
wheel. They can wait, watch what works, and act
accordingly. If you have an audience that loves your
platform, you can monitor what others are doing to bring
something logical after that. You don’t have to risk too
much. So I don’t see it as nearsighted. They just chose to
be subordinate rather than leaders in this field.
And when you have power in the market (like
Microsoft), you can do this, you can be a follower and
be a huge success.
This is Apple’s policy, for example, Apple does not
invent things, but rather develops what others have
accomplished.
