Reuters obtained internal documents belonging to the
Chinese company Huawei, which dates back to 2010,
and says it shows the latter’s involvement in violating
the US trade sanctions imposed on Iran.
For years, Huawei denied penetration of US sanctions
against Iran, but, according to Reuters, was involved in
sending outlawed US computer equipment to Iran’s
largest mobile phone company.
The agency did not provide a response from the Chinese
company after the publication of these documents, which
show two lists of the company’s parcels dated December
2010 with computers made by the American company
“Hewlett-Packard”, addressed to the Iranian mobile
phone company.
Parcel listings and other internal documents provide the
strongest documented evidence to date of Huawei’s
involvement in the listed violations of commercial
sanctions.
The emergence of these documents could reinforce
Washington’s multi-pronged campaign to curb the power
of Huawei, the world leader in the telecom industry.
The newly acquired documents include a multi-million
dollar telecommunications project in Iran, which is one
of the main axes of a criminal case filed by Washington
against the Chinese company and its chief financial
officer, Meng Wanzhu.
