Last Friday, Epic Games filed a memo to the court asking the
company to issue an initial decision to return Fortnite to iOS
phones and we are awaiting the court’s response to this memo
and future updates on the case.
The issue between Epic Games and Apple began due to the
release of an update for the Fortnite game, which provided the
option to pay within the game store at a reduced price to avoid
paying in the App Store in an attempt to evade paying Apple’s
share of 30%. Epic Games, before taking this step, sent an
email To Apple stating its desire to take this step in defiance
of Apple’s sovereignty over its platform.
The court had previously issued a decision preventing Apple
from banning the Unreal Engine on its devices, which would
have caused harm to the developers, but the court earlier refused
to issue a decision to return Fortnite to the iOS store despite
the argument by Epic Games that deleting the game would cause
huge losses, but the court’s response was indicating That Epic
Games put itself in this situation in the first place.
