FAR: Changing Tides
In 2018, we got the adventure game FAR: Lone Sails from Swiss
development team Okomotive as the team’s first project, which
established in 2017, the team returns to us this year with another adventure,
FAR: Changing Tides, and while FAR: Lone Sails took us on an adventure
on wheels across deserts and lands FAR: Changing Tides takes us on an
adventure across the seas in a post-apocalyptic world, so what was the experience like?
Who needs the story? FAR: Changing Tides does not seem to be needed,
as the game does not provide any explanation or indications for the story
or the purpose of this little boy’s sailing across the seas. In a world engulfed
by floods, you will pass by beautiful icy areas and other areas with signs
indicating the cities and facilities that were previously in them, and we have
never seen a picture of this beauty of the post-disaster world! On the audio level,
the melodies offer a good range of calm melodies that are consistent with
the artistic orientation and serve their purpose.
The game experience depends on managing your ship properly while you
are sailing in the sea through two ways, either using the sails when there
is wind or using the ship’s engine that depends on fuel, when using the sails
you must monitor the surrounding environment to make sure that the sails
or anchor will not hit an object in the environment The problem with this
option is that the time you have to interact with seeing an obstacle on your
way is very short and it is often difficult to lower the anchor before it receives
damage, and the two-dimensional nature of the game makes it difficult
Oftentimes realizing whether or not some elements in the environment
are going to hit the sails.

FAR: Changing Tides
The second option is to use the ship’s engine, which you will acquire at an early
age and will allow you to sail quickly, provided that fuel is available and you
continue to blow on the fire that will allow you to reach the maximum speed.
Water hose, With the start of using this option, you will realize that the engine’s
fuel consumption is fast, and for this you must monitor the radar, which indicates
the presence of waste around you, and it is the one that you will burn as fuel.
Its speed, knowing that the resources are abundant when you find them,
so you must make sure that your treasury is full of those resources and
do not miss the opportunity to collect them.
During the journey, your vehicle will be damaged, and you will find
a maintenance kit that can be used several times before it runs out.
The ship will have it until sailing or using the engine here are the two
processes that make up the largest proportion of this experience,
with those improvements providing some minor additions to the process.
Spending most of the time watching the sails or paying attention to
the engine temperature and the need to stop whenever you notice
the presence of resources for fear of running out of fuel makes sailing
a boring process as you progress in the experience, despite its shortness,
and the absence of other activities or puzzles and challenges that are
a little more difficult, even if a little, makes the experience devoid of
fun In its final hours, the other negative in the game is the almost complete
absence of instructions or hints, which we understand are not needed in
such a simple experience, but there are many situations in which you will
find yourself confused because you do not know the next step or why
the ship is not moving because you did not do a certain thing that motivates
you To do everything possible to know what is the right move.
We finished FAR: Changing Tides in 5 hours, and we can say that it is
a beautiful and relaxing experience. It is geared towards those who want
a short and beautiful experience far from the usual challenges and pressures,
but it does not necessarily provide the desired fun for fans of adventure games,
and it is difficult to recommend it to most of the fans of these games.
