After a long tumultuous period with Real Madrid, Gareth Bale’s
agent said, Tuesday, that Tottenham Hotspur is negotiating with
the Spanish first-division champions to restore the Welsh international.
Gareth Bale participated in more than 200 matches for
Tottenham between 2007 and 2013, scoring 56 goals and 58
assists, before moving in a record deal that cost Real Madrid
100 million euros ($ 118.46 million).
The 31-year-old scored more than 100 goals with Real Madrid
and won many titles, including 4 in the Champions League,
but participated for limited periods under coach Zinedine
Zidane at the end of last season in which the team was crowned
the league title.
His agent Jonathan Barnett told the BBC today, “Gareth still
loves Tottenham. We are still negotiating (Tottenham, Real
Madrid and Bale’s agent). It’s the club he wants to join.”
Bale suffered his worst season at Real Madrid in 2019-2020,
scoring only 3 goals in all competitions, and earlier this month
he admitted that he would consider returning to the Premier
League if Real Madrid allowed an end to his term in Spain.
The Welsh international, who has a contract until 2022, was
about to leave for Jiangsu Suning, China, last year, before the
deal faltered when Real Madrid decided to get a payment
instead of terminating his contract.
Since then, Real Madrid fans have divided opinions about Bale,
with some feeling frustrated at his lack of commitment.
He did not play in his last 7 league matches when Real Madrid
beat Barcelona to claim the title, while Bale watched the
matches from the bench.
