For the first time in history, the world has witnessed a deal
of about half a billion dollars for an athlete, American footballer
Patrick Mahomez, to bypass the deals of the most expensive
footballers.
And the British newspaper “The Independent” reported on
Wednesday that the American football player Patrick Mahomiz,
24, had concluded a deal that extended his contract with
the Kansas City Chiefs, which is competing in the American
League, particularly in the western part of it.
The contract period between the two parties is 10 years,
to expire in 2031.
Club president Clark Hunt said in a statement that Patrick “has
evolved a lot since he joined the team several years ago,
to become one of the most prolific players in action.”
He also indicated that the player led the team to its first
championship in 50 years.
The British newspaper said that the young player signed
the agreement two days ago, noting that he would receive a net
amount over the years of the contract amounting to
503 million dollars.
It seemed surprising to conclude such deals at a time when
the world is sweeping the Corona virus, which has led to lower
players ’wages and the value of their transfer deals between
clubs, especially in football.
The only footballer who has reached the costs of moving from
one club to another is the Brazilian Neymar, when he moved
from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.
The value at the time was nearly one billion dollars, but more
than 200 million of them was the value of the penalty clause
that must be paid upon termination of the contract.
