For the first time in the history of the award, the list of candidates
for the Player of the Year award in Europe, presented by the
European Football Association (UEFA), is empty of Portuguese
names, Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentine Lionel Messi.
(UEFA) revealed the list of three candidates for the Player of the
Year award, based on their level last season in the local and
European championships.
The list included Bayern Munich stars Robert Lewandowski and
Manuel Neuer, as well as Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne.
The nominations included the stars who shone during the
football season, especially in the European Champions League,
the championship that Bayern Munich was crowned in last month.
For the first time since UEFA launched the award, in 2010,
neither Ronaldo nor Messi were nominated for the award, as
the votes put Messi fourth and Ronaldo tenth, in the nominations
for the best player.
And included the list of “best coach in Europe” for last season,
3 German coaches, they are Bayern Munich coach Hanzi Flick,
Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp, and Red Bull Leipzig’s Julian Nagelsmann.
It is noteworthy that the crowning of the best player and the best
coach will take place on October 1, in the Champions League
drawing ceremony for next season.
