Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola launched an appeal to his
team players urging them to show their distinguished character
and fight until the last second in their upcoming match away
from home in the first leg of the Champions League Round 16
matches against Real Madrid on Wednesday.
The city will face a difficult task facing the Royal Club, which
has been crowned 13 times.
On the upcoming mission of his team, Guardiola told reporters
after the 1-0 victory over Leicester in the Premier League: “We
will have to show our distinguished character and I know that I
and the players and the whole club want to fight to the end for
this title.
He continued: “This is the real test. The championship kings are
facing a team that is not used to playing such games a lot
because our best performance was to reach the semi-finals.”
And he added: “But if you want to do this (win the title), you
will have to face such teams sooner or later. And you will have to beat Real Madrid and Barcelona and beat Bayern Munich.
You will have to beat very big teams.”
“If we succeed in the mission, we will be very happy. If we do not, we will try next season … In the next season, I do not
know, but when we can play, we will return,” Guardiola added.
The city has not beaten Real Madrid in four previous matches in
the Champions League.
