Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola called on his team
Friday not to contemplate a possible match in the Champions
League quarter-finals against Juventus because losing focus
against Real Madrid in the second leg of the last sixteen could
cost him to leave the tournament.
City beat Real Madrid 2-1 in the first leg, and the return match
will take place at Al Ittihad stadium on the seventh of August,
and might face Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammates in the quarter-
finals if the two teams succeed in this role.
The Italian team is 1-0 behind in the first leg against Olympique
Lyon in France.
Guardiola told reporters before Saturday’s confrontation in
the Premier League against Brighton & Hove Albion: “There
is no one here who knows Real Madrid more than me. It is
the team that dominates the Champions League titles and we
have to be in full focus against them.”
“We are thinking about the Real match. If we think about
the next match, the king of this tournament will overthrow us.”
Guardiola confirmed that Argentine striker Sergio Aguero,
who underwent surgery in Barcelona last month, will miss
the confrontation against the European champions 13 times.
In the event that he beats his host Brighton, Manchester City
will be confirmed in the Premier League’s Golden Square and
end a series of 3 consecutive defeats outside the stadium in
the league, the worst record outside the Earth in the Guardiola
coaching career.
