Manchester City soccer defender Eric Garcia has rejected an
offer to extend his contract with the Premier League club.
Some attributed the refusal of the 19-year-old defending
midfielder to his desire to return to Barcelona, which saw his
emergence as a youngster and left 3 years ago.
The Spanish defender has played 19 first-team matches this
season for Manchester City.
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola said: “He has announced
that he does not want to extend his contract with Manchester
City, in front of him another year and after that he does not want
to extend, we want (his survival) but he does not want, so I
imagine that he wants to play for another club.”
The club signed a contract this week to sign Dutch defender
Nathan Aki from Bournemouth, but will now have to decide
whether it makes sense to sell Garcia this summer or risk losing
it during the transfer season next year.
