Liverpool Under-23 coach Neal Critchley praised veteran James Milner after inspiring the youngest squad in the club’s history to win the fourth round of the FA Cup, against Shrewsbury Town. After German coach Juergen Klopp decided to rest the first team in the replay, due to a winter vacation in the Premier League, 34-year-old Milner decided to give a boost to the young squad before playing at Anfield in a game that landers won 1-0.”He trained with us and asked if he could come,” Critchley told reporters. “My answer was, I think the answer is yes, of course, you can. He showed great respect for us by asking him.”He added: “He achieved a lot in the game because of this character and he gave advice to the players and was supporting them and was influential in the player’s room.”Critchley said that Milner, who is absent from the Liverpool squad for the time being due to injury, was pleased with the young players’ performance against the third-division team.”I don’t think he can play yet … but he was jumping behind me so I think he was satisfied with the performance,” added the under-23 coach, who confirmed he had received a letter from Coach Klopp to the players. Liverpool qualified to face Chelsea in the fifth round of the competition.
