Recent sports data revealed that Real Madrid spent more money than any other club in the world during the year 2019, while Chelsea managed to make a profit thanks to a “punitive measure”.
The “CIES” Football Observatory revealed everything that football clubs spent in the past year, in addition to the revenues they earned in the mentioned period.
Chelsea finished English at the top of the ranking, after achieving 205 million euros in gains, and this figure was achieved because the International Football Association (FIFA) punished the London club by preventing it from including any player in the transfer market.
Chelsea did only one deal by signing Matteo Kovacic of Real Madrid for 45 million euros.
As for the second place, the Portuguese club Benfica came with profits of nearly 166 million euros, because it spent only 64 million euros while receiving revenues of 230 million euros.
Meanwhile, Ajax Amsterdam Dutch came third with profits of 137 million euros, according to the Spanish newspaper “AS”.
On the other hand, Real Madrid’s losses amounted to 181 million euros, because it spent 330 million euros during the last two transfer windows for players (a record number), as a result of the inclusion of Eden Hazard, Rodrigo, Luca Gouvic, IDR Mleitau, and Fernald Mende and Renier.
Although the Spanish club obtained 149 million euros from the sale of some players, it was unable to achieve a balance in spending and revenues.
The Barcelona team, in turn, was not spared from the losses, which amounted to 166 million euros, as it only gained 122 million euros, while the spending bill reached 288 million euros.
