In the midst of the financial crises facing most clubs in
the world due to the outbreak of the new Corona virus,
Arsenal players refused to reduce their salaries by 12.5
percent.
In a vote on Monday evening, players were asked to
reduce their wages over the next 12 months, after club
revenues fell on the back of interrupted football activity.
The players ’response was rejected, although the club’s
request included adding deductibles in the coming
decades after the end of the Corona crisis, including any
player who quit“ gunners ”.
British press sources revealed that the players ’rejection
was due to fears of a prolonged global epidemic and the
club’s inability to deliver on its promises.
Arsenal pays about 230 million pounds annually as
salaries for the players, while the required reduction rate
would have saved the club’s treasury about 25 million.
The London club may now have to think about selling
some of its stars during the next summer transfer period,
but this solution does not seem guaranteed either in the
absence of any clear horizon for the end of the global
financial crisis.
The Association of Professional Players in England
recommended that no wage cuts be accepted at all, given
that these deductions will not reach those in need but
will be in the pockets of club owners.
