The Italian Football Federation approved, on Monday, the
principle of organizing a decisive role in the event the league
stops again due to the new Corona virus, as well as the use of
an algorithm account to determine the ranking, in the event of
a final suspension of the competition.
“Football is the winner. We have always stressed the necessity
of not staying out of European football. We have shown
consistency and unity. In the event of a pause, we have planned
a new shape with a decisive role,” said Gabriele Gravina,
president of the federation, after a meeting in Rome.
The Italian league competition halted on the ninth of March
due to the outbreak of the new Corona virus, and scheduled
to resume on June 20 with four postponed matches from
the twenty-fifth stage, followed by the remaining 12 stages
of the season.
Gravina confirmed that if the tournament stops again for reasons
related to “Covid-19”, the Italian federation will decide to end it
“according to a different system”, which is “brief playoffs.”
He added that in the event of a final suspension of the season,
the federation will use a calculation system to determine
the ranking, taking into account the number of points obtained
before the competition stops and includes “corrective criteria”,
that is, the average score in the matches on the team’s field,
outside the rules, as well as the remaining matches, both on
Team stadium or outside the rules.
He pointed out that this process will use to determine
the qualifying places for the two European competitions
(Champions League and “Europa League”), as well as
the teams that will fall to the second degree.
But Gravina stressed that this account will not
determine the champion, and therefore the league title will not
be granted to any team, except in the event of completion of
the season, or if it is no longer mathematically possible to catch
the leader at the moment of the final stop of the season.
The Italian Federation Council announced the final cancellation
of the women’s first season. Juventus were in the lead when
competitions stopped, but he was not awarded the title.
