African football legend Samuel Eto’o said his advice
to his former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi had
changed his career.
Eto’o and Messi joined the Catalan team for 5 seasons,
during which they managed to lead the La Liga 3 times
and the UEFA Champions League twice.
“Messi has confessed to me that his career has changed,
thanks to my advice,” the Cameroon national, who
retired from football last year, told the sports news
network “Dzen”.
When Eto’o, 39, was asked about the advice Macy, 32,
was talking about, he refused to disclose it.
He continued: “One day he said: Thanks to Samuel, my
career turned. He had to change one or two things, but
he always had the talent.”
The two stars separated in 2009 when Eto’o left for Inter
Milan, while the 6-ball ‘flea’ journey with Barcelona
continued until today.
Ito added: “I am proud and happy that he has written
the history that is not over, and it will be very difficult
for someone to go beyond what he has achieved.”
Eto’o was a big fan of Messi, when he was promoted
from the “La Masia” youth academy to the first team
of Barcelona, and added: “We knew that Messi would
one day reach what he reached.”
He concluded, “I am glad that he did it, in the end, thanks
to his effort. He proved that nothing has changed.
He is the same wonderful person I met for the first time.”
