Jurgen Klopp, the Premier League, has chosen the best coach of
the season after leading Liverpool to the title for the first time in 30 years.
Club led Liverpool to the Premier League title in the same
season, culminating with its team the Club World Championship.
The German coach was awarded the award by former
Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson.
“Juergen, great,” Ferguson said on Sky Sports.
“We are talking about Leeds United spending 16 years in the
first division (practically the second), but Liverpool has waited
30 years to win the league title, it is unbelievable.”
He continued: “You totally deserve it. Your team’s performance
was great. Your personality runs throughout the entire club.
It was a great performance.”
“I will forgive you for waking me up at 3:30 in the morning to
tell me you won the league! Thank you, but in any case, you
totally deserve it. You did well.”
Ferguson, the former Borussia Dortmund coach , said: “I know it
is not 100 per cent appropriate as a Liverpool coach but I admire
him. I remember he was the first British coach I met.”
“We had breakfast. I’m not sure how much he remembers (that
meeting) but I remember because for me that moment was like
meeting the Pope. It was a wonderful thing,” he added.
He continued: “I did not think at that moment that I would
receive a cup in his name,” referring to the cup of the best
coach in the league.
Sheffield United coach Chris Wilder, who was awarded
the award last season, finished second.
And Argentine Marcelo Bielsa won the award for best coach in
the first class after leading Leeds United to the first time in 16 years.
