After the loss suffered by Liverpool against Southampton 0-1 in the 17th week of the Premier League matches,
German Jurgen Klopp spoke angrily after the end of the match and mocked his opponent at the top,
Manchester United.
Klopp confirmed that his opponent at the top, Manchester United, is very lucky to have won penalty kicks during
the last two years, noting that the Red Devils have received penalty kicks during this period, more than the period
he spent as coach of the Liverpool team 5 years ago.
Klopp said: “Manchester United have got more penalties in the last two years than the penalties I got in the five
and a half years I spent here, but this is no excuse for today’s defeat.”
He added, “If anyone tells me that Sadio Mane has acted for a penalty kick then this is the biggest joke in the world.
Other teams will get a penalty kick, handball, can anyone explain that to me?”
He continued: “Southampton performed very well. I am concerned about our style of play and I did not like it much.
This is our problem. The problems in football solved in football. We know the situation and we are not foolish.
We have to show the reaction. Southampton deserved to win 100 percent.”
“We had a bad start and we played completely under Southampton’s way. We wasted the game in the first few
minutes of the game. It is very frustrating, it is our fault, and I bear the responsibility for that.”
“The last time we went to Aston Villa, we lost, so we must be careful that it will not happen again,
Manchester United? I can’t think of the match now, it’s too far,” he concluded.
Despite the result, Liverpool continues to top the Premier League standings with 33 points from 17 matches,
and a goal difference from Manchester United, who is ranked the same number of goals but after 16 games.
