German Jurgen Klopp, coach of Liverpool, the English Premier
League, said that spending a lot of money in the transfer market,
as Chelsea did this summer, does not guarantee success,
because clubs have to put a lot of effort into training in order
to the newcomers to adapt.
Chelsea, owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich,
spent nearly 200 million pounds, equivalent to 259.88 million
dollars, to include Timofferner, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyash and
Ben Chilwell, while Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr joined for free.
Liverpool, who finished last season by 33 points ahead of coach
Frank Lampard’s side, settled with the contracting of left-back
Constantinos Tsimikas from Olympiacos.
Reuters quoted the German coach as saying: “We live in a world
surrounded by a lot of suspicion at this moment. Some clubs do
not care much about the uncertainty surrounding the future
because they are owned by states or governments. We are a
different club.”
“We qualified for the Champions League final two years ago,
and won the title last year, and we became champions of the
English Premier League last season because of the way we
work,” Klopp added.
“We cannot change overnight and say, ‘We want to be like
Chelsea.’ Chelsea have a lot of players and that might be an
advantage, but that also means they have to adapt very quickly.
You can’t include the top 11 players and hope they do the best
football.” Next week. It’s about putting in the effort in training. ”
Liverpool begin their title defense against newcomers Leeds
United on Saturday, while Chelsea meet Brighton & Hove
Albion on Monday.
