The German coach, Juergen Klopp, stressed that his team,
Liverpool, will adopt the attack next season as a way to defend
the title, which he won this season in the English Premier
League football after waiting 30 years.
Last week, the Red Team clinched the title of England
Championship in its favor for the first time since 1990, beating
Manchester City, champion of the past two seasons, with seven
stages remaining.
The first match for the new champions, hosted by the former
defending champion at its stadium, Al Ittihad Stadium, on
Thursday, will be in the 32nd stage.
In comments on the eve of the match, Klopp said: “We will not
defend the title next season. We will attack (to keep it).”
He continued: “I learned that once you think that you have
reached the top, then this means that you started to get off it.
We do not feel it. I do not feel final satisfaction. What we have
achieved is an additional step. It is a big step, incredibly big, but
it is not the only thing that I want to I am talking about it with
the guys (team players) 20 years from now. ”
Club has made a quantum leap in Liverpool since taking over its
coaching duties in 2015, gradually rebuilding the team, leading
to 3 major titles in the past months, namely the Champions
League and Club World Cup 2019, and the Premier League
2019-2020.
Klopp stressed that his team, which is 23 points away from Man
City II with 7 games left at the end of the season, wants to end
this campaign vigorously, before preparing for the next season.
He said: “We are preparing to meet Manchester City with a full
focus (…) This does not mean that we will win against them,
but it means that we are ready. We will prepare for the next
season in this manner as well. We are not tired, we are still
in the midst of something.”
