The mayor of Madrid has said that all the remaining
matches in the Football League and other sports
competitions in Spain will hold without fans until
at least the end of the summer.
Jose Luis Martínez Almeida told Radio Onda Cerro that
we cannot control Coronavirus pandemic
during the resumption of tournaments, which are
witnessing a huge turnout.
Martinez Almeida stated: “There will be no fans inside
the Spanish stands throughout the spring and summer,
and perhaps even the autumn,” adding that the situation
will not be under full control.
“We will have to change our habits and behaviors even
after we allowed to return to the streets,” said the
mayor of the Spanish capital.
The Spanish league not expected to resume until at
least the end of May, but the president of the Spanish
Football Federation expects to complete the matches
without an audience.
Martinez Almeida said: “Football matches without fans
in the summer are possible, as long as health and safety
rules followed.”
The Football Association announced this week that if the
league does not resume, it will use the current
arrangement to decide the four clubs that will participate
in the Champions League, which means the participation
of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Seville and Real Sociedad.
The federation said that the total losses that the clubs will
incur as a result of not completing the season due to the
epidemic could reach approximately $ 1.1 billion.
And if the league resumed without an audience, it will
be about 325 million dollars, and if resumed in the
presence of fans, the losses will be approximately 163
million dollars.
