Paris Saint-Germain won the title of the last edition of the
French Football Association Cup, by beating Lyon on a penalty
shootout 6-5 after tying negatively in the original and extra time,
Friday in Paris.
The final match of the competition, which will be canceled next
year to relieve the pressure of matches on local clubs,
was originally scheduled for April 4, but was postponed
due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Saint-Germain raised its record to 9 standard titles in the competition.
The last kick of the ball was missed by his Burkinabe
replacement, Bertrand Traore, when the Costa Rican goalkeeper,
Keylor Navas, tackled it.
Saint-Germain was crowned champions of the league by a
decision of the local federation, which decided not to complete
the season at the end of April because of the Corona outbreak,
before he crowned the French Cup last week at the expense
of Saint-Etienne by beating him 1-0 with a goal scored by
his Brazilian star Neymar.
In contrast, Lyon was looking for his first title since the 2012 local cup.
Lyon had to win to take part in the European League
competition (Europa League) next season and avoid
the absence of continental competitions for the first time since
1997, knowing that it was the seventh in the domestic league.
