Real Madrid, the newly crowned La Liga champion, has not
managed to maintain its ideal results since the resumption of
the season, and a 2-2 draw with its neighbor Leganes, who fell
to the second division, on Sunday.
Despite the draw, Zidane managed to take revenge on Leganes
and send him to the second division, after the team caused his
departure from Real Madrid after losing in the King’s Cup of
Spain in May 2018.
Sergio Ramos gave Real Madrid his 11th goal of the season
in the ninth minute, after coach Zinedine Zidane made several
changes to his squad after a 2-1 victory over Villarreal on
Thursday, a result that gave him his first league title since 2017.
Leganes tied the score at the end of the first half with midfielder
Brian Khel, but Marco Asensio returned to Real Madrid at
the start of the second half.
Roger caught up with the equalizer in the 78th minute to give
Leganes some hope of surviving the relegation and demanded
a penalty kick in the last minutes for a handball against Luka
Jovic, but the referee pointed out the game after reviewing
the assistant video rule, while Oscar Rodriguez shot over
the crossbar from inside the penalty area in stoppage time.
Real Madrid ended the season with 87 points, after the tie put
an end to ten consecutive victories, 5 points behind second-
placed Barcelona.
Leganes finished 18 with 36 points, falling with Real Mallorca
and Espanyol, while Celta Vigo, who finished the season with
37 points, continued in the first division after a 0-0 draw with
hosts Espanyol.
