Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson said that winning the Premier League
title last season did not stop his team’s desire to win more titles and awards,
indicating that he would strive to achieve more achievements in the new season.
After waiting for 30 years, Liverpool won the Premier League
and ended the season, 18 ahead of their closest competitors, Manchester City.
Henderson made 30 league matches last season before he was
defeated by a knee injury.
On his club’s official website, the England midfielder urged his
team-mates to keep improving, saying: “We need to start again
and be better in order to maintain this enthusiasm, this desire
and the ability to compete, as we have been in the past few years.” .
“You just have to continue working and winning as many titles
as possible, because we have proven over the past few years that
we are one of the summit teams. And it’s all due to hard work
and commitment,” Henderson added.
The captain added, “I am happy to think about what we can do
in the new season, and to have a big season again.”
Liverpool, who is coached by German Jürgen Klopp, will meet
in the Charity Shield Cup match, on Saturday, with Arsenal, the
England Cup champion, before starting the journey to defend
the league title against newcomer Leeds United on September 12.
“We have to do well in this match, which gives us another
chance to win a title, and soon after that the Premier League
starts. So we have to prepare for all of that,” Henderson said.
