Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Premier League title were dealt a blow when it succumbed to the lightning
bolt of Brighton when he stunned the Reds’ goal at Anfield on Wednesday.
Stephen Alzate scored in the 56th minute and Liverpool could not respond, failing to score for the third time
in a row at home in the league.
After Manchester City’s victory at Burnley Stadium earlier in the day, fourth-placed Liverpool is seven points
behind Pep Guardiola’s side and have played more games.
Brighton followed their victory over Tottenham Hotspur this week with another structured performance and
Liverpool posed no threat to their home goal.
Alzate was in the right place to deal with Dan Byrne’s pass from a header and shot it past Coevin Kelleher.
With Liverpool pressed in search of a tie, their defense was exposed and Leandro Trussar and Yves Bissuma
squandered the opportunity to cement Brighton’s lead.
Brighton held up to ten points above the relegation zone in 15th.
