Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp admitted he was
disappointed after two “big” mistakes were behind
Chelsea’s first goal against his team in the FA Cup
match, Tuesday.
Chelsea completed a few difficult days for
Liverpool thanks to two goals from Willian and
Ross Barclay to win 2-0, and climb to the quarter-
finals of the most prestigious championship in the
world.
Liverpool’s unbeaten run in the Premier League
stopped at 44 consecutive games with a sudden 0-3
loss at Watford on Saturday, and then fell again at
Stamford Bridge today.
Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian allowed a strong shot
from Willian to shake his net easily after he hit his
hand and entered the goal, 13 minutes after the
start, and the ball was originally lost to the team’s
penalty area.
Chelsea then broke into the Liverpool defense in a
quick counterattack, adding Barclay the second
goal, an hour after the match.
Klopp said: “Losing 2-0 is not a good thing, but it
can be explained … We made two big mistakes
during the first goal.”
He continued, in comments after the match, “It was
going through a long time because we were
defending very well, it was not easy to get a lot of
chances against us. But now we receive a lot of
goals, that is correct.”
But the German coach confirmed that he was not
worried about losing momentum and considered
that “we always have a chance to regain it”, despite
the team suffered three losses in the last 4 games.
Liverpool is close to crowning the English Premier
League after an absence of 30 years, but faces the
loss of its Champions League title after losing the
first leg in the round of 16 with a clean goal against
Atletico Madrid.
