Phil Fuden and Riyadh Mahrez scored a double to lead
Manchester City to a landslide 5-0 win over Burnley in
the Premier League, Monday.
Manchester City showed their strength after coach Pep
Guardiola made 8 changes to his squad.
With this victory, second-placed City are 20 points
behind leaders Liverpool 8 games before the end of
the season, and Juergen Klopp’s team will not be able to
clinch the title if they beat Crystal Palace at Anfield
Stadium on Wednesday.
And if Man City defeated Chelsea on Thursday,
Liverpool could clinch their first league title in 30 years
against Guardiola in Manchester on July 2.
In Monday’s game, Burnley coach Sean Dyke was able to
only put seven substitutes out of the nine available
to him, including two goalkeepers, and his
inexperienced team missed four key players who
did not extend their contracts.
Talented Foden, 20, in his fourth participation in
the starting lineup this season, opened the score in
the 22nd minute with a low shot from goalkeeper Nick
Popp after a short corner kick.
Riad Mehrez doubled the result in a wonderful way after
a long pass from Fernandinho, to dribble the Burnley
defense before shaking the net.
The score became 3-0 before the break after the assistant
video referee decided that Burnley’s defender Ben Mae
had committed a foul against Sergio Aguero in the area.
Although the Argentine striker came out injured,
Mahrez successfully awarded the penalty.
The Burnley defense failed to deal again with a corner
kick that Foden played the ball to Bernardo Silva, who
placed it in front of goal, to record David Silva’s fourth
goal after six minutes of the second half.
The magnificent Foden finished five City in the 63rd
minute after a quick counterattack.
“I think it was my best game in the City shirt,” Foden
said. “I am still learning every day and I’m still young,
but I feel happy when I perform like this.”
