Mohamed Salah announces his continuation with Liverpool next season
Mohamed Salah, the star and top scorer of Liverpool, confirmed his continuation in the ranks
of the “Reds” during the next season 2022-2023.
Mohamed Salah has a contract with the English Premier League runner-up that extends until
June 30, 2023, and he will have the right to sign for free to any club next January.
In the press conference before facing Real Madrid in the Champions League final, scheduled
for May 28, Salah denied reports indicating his departure this summer.
Salah added, “I do not want to talk about the contract at the moment, but I confirm that I will continue
with the team next season.”
Salah continued: “My focus at the moment is on facing Real Madrid, I want to win the Champions
League again, this week is very important for us, and I am not currently thinking about renewing the contract.”
Mohamed Salah is waiting for the end of the current season, facing Real Madrid, to resume negotiations
to renew the contract with Liverpool, to obtain additional years at Anfield.
The Egyptian star entered the history of his club and the English Premier League by winning
the Golden Boot 3 times in the Liverpool shirt, and occupying the 20th place in the Premier League’s
historical scorers list with 120 goals.
For his part, Tom Werner, owner and president of Liverpool club, said in statements to the American
newspaper “The Athletic” that the management of his club revealed its clear desire for the continuation
of Mohamed Salah, as well as his Senegalese colleague Sadio Mane.
Werner continued, “I would like to keep the contract renewal negotiations confidential, but we have made
it clear that we want Salah and Mane to continue.”
English newspapers have reported during the last period confirming Salah’s desire to obtain approximately
400,000 pounds per week to renew his contract, which is almost double his current salary.
And about the wage structure in Liverpool, and the possibility of opening the budget, Werner said:
“Football is going through a difficult period at the moment, we are competing with very successful clubs,
but I am proud of what we have achieved, and we can only talk now about the Champions League final.”
