Napoli qualified for the Italian Football Cup final by a
1-1 draw at home to Inter Milan on Saturday, while
striker Dres Mertens became the historic top scorer for
the Italian club.
Inter Milan advanced a goal two minutes after the second
leg semi-final, when Christian Eriksen scored directly
from a corner kick that goalkeeper David Ospina failed
to deal with.
But Mertens equalized before the end of the first half,
recording his 122 goal with the Italian club in all
competitions.
Mertens became the first goalscorer in the history of
Naples, with a goal difference from the Slovak Marik
Marajek, who is currently playing in the Chines
e League, while legendary Argentine Diego Maradona
is third with 115 goals.
Napoli won 2-1 in the aggregate, thanks to a 1-0 lead
in the first-leg match in San Siro four months ago,
and they will face Juventus in the final in Rome,
next Wednesday.
The two teams appeared in their first game after the
resumption of local soccer activity, after a 3-month
hiatus due to the Corona virus, and performance
declined clearly in the last 20 minutes, although each
team made 5 changes.
