Seville, Spain, reached the semi-finals of the European League
“Europa League” with a deadly goal by Lucas Ocampos in the
88th minute, which gave him a 1-0 victory over
Wolverhampton in Duisburg, Germany.
And the Andalusian club has beaten the record holder of the
continental competition title on five occasions, including three
consecutive titles between 2014 and 2016, a date in the golden
box with Manchester United.
Wolverhampton failed to adhere to its last hope in the European
competition next season after the disappointing end of
the Premier League in seventh place.
Sevilla, who reached the semi-finals for the sixth time in their
history, is offering high levels and has not lost any of its last 19
matches in all competitions with today’s match, as the last defeat
dates back to last February in the League against Celta Vigo.
He will play in the European Champions League next season
after finishing fourth in the Spanish League.
And coach Julen Lopetegui’s team had surpassed the Italian
Roma 2-0 in the final price round in their match last week in
Duisburg in a one-match system, after the first leg of the match
could not be held due to the outbreak of the new Corona virus last March.
Meanwhile, Portuguese coach Nuno Espirito Santo crossed the
threshold of Greek Olympiakos to reach the quarter-finals of a
continental competition for the first time since 1972.
Wolverhampton threatened early after the Malian Spaniard,
Adama Traore, lifted a cross followed by Mexican Raul
Jimenez, a header that landed in the hands of Moroccan
goalkeeper Yassin Bono.
Adama Traore received a penalty when he was launched from
behind the middle of the field into the area, blocked by Brazilian Diego Carlos.
However, Bono responded to Jimenez’s attempt (13). It is the
first time that he missed a penalty with the team, after having
succeeded in all eight previous attempts.
Ironically, the Mexican scored his first European goal in his
career against Seville in 2014 in LaLiga, when he was playing
for Atletico Madrid.
The Andalusian club did not significantly threaten the “Wolves”
goal, as the Argentine shot by Lucas Ocampos passed from
within the area next to the post (37), before the Argentine ball,
Iver Banega, settled in the far hands of Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio (42).
Seville pressed at the start of the second half, and Moroccan
striker Youssef Nassiri managed to dodge three players inside
the area to reach Patricio (62), before Frenchman Jules Conde’s
header crossed the crossbar (66).
And Patricio saved his goal from an investigator when he deftly
sent a free kick by Banega to a corner (77).
Sevilla succeeded in snatching the deserved winning goal when
the Spaniard Soso implemented a quick corner kick to Banega,
who raised a cross to Ocampos, followed by a header (88).
