Leon Goritska struck in the 86th minute to give Bayern
Munich a 2-1 victory at Borussia Moenchengladbach
on Saturday, leaving the Bavarian team one victory away
from retaining the German Bundesliga title,
“Bundesliga”.
Goretska turned Benjamin Pavard’s low cross pass with
his foot into the net, leaving Bayern Munich seven points
clear of Borussia Dortmund, who defeated 1-0 at hosts
Fortuna Dusseldorf.
Bayern, who can clinch the eighth consecutive title
in Bundesliga, next Tuesday, when he visits Werder
Bremen, has 73 points compared to 66 for Dortmund.
Monchengladbach remained in fourth place, with 56
points.
Bayern, who missed his top scorer Robert Lewandowski,
and Thomas Muller, the league’s most industry-leading
goalscorer, this season due to suspension, came in the
26th minute when goalkeeper Jan Sommer, who
surprisingly saved a chance moments earlier, passed a
ball on the way to the Bavarian striker Joshua Zirczey.
The Dutch striker had only to put the ball in the empty
net of his goalkeeper.
But the away team, seeking to qualify for the Champions
League, came out even in the first half thanks to a goal
by French international Pavard in the goal, when he was
trying to get off Patrick Herman’s cross pass.
But Goritska took off in the free space at the near post
and scored the tenth consecutive win for Bayern in
the league.
Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer said, “We can win
these difficult matches. Our plan was a little different.
We weren’t the most possession of the ball and we
pressed more at the pitch time.”
“We made the opponent attack us. That was our plan,
” he added.
