Real Madrid failed to take advantage of the momentum
to win the top game in the last round, and lost 1-2 at Real
Betis, to guide Barcelona’s rival the top of the Primera
Liga, Sunday.
Real Madrid’s balance stuck at 56 points from 27 games,
two points behind leaders Barcelona, who won 1-0 over
Real Sociedad, on Saturday, to regain the summit, after
one week of zero -2 loss at the Santiago Bernabeu
Stadium.
Real Betis advanced with a goal in the 40th minute, in
the midst of confusion, as he was demanding a penalty
after Sergio Ramos and Noble Poor’s joint ball, but
defender Sydney met the ball with a huge shot in the net.
The Brazilian player’s celebrations stopped quickly, as he
made a mistake against Marcelo inside the penalty area,
and Karim Benzema successfully executed the penalty
kick, to score his first goal in seven games in all
competitions.
Betis captain Joaquin missed an easy opportunity early in
the second half, but his team ignited the atmosphere in
the crowded stadium, when he regained the lead through
Barcelona’s former striker Christian Teo, in the 82nd
minute.
