From within the house isolation, the Real Madrid
goalkeeper sparked the controversy by noting that his
“royal” team deserved the Spanish League title from
arch-rivals Barcelona, in case of the season, canceled,
although the latter is the league leader.
Barcelona leads the La Liga table, two points behind its
opponents, Real Madrid, before the league stopped due
to the outbreak of the Coruna virus, and with 11 rounds
remaining.
However, Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois indicated
that Real Madrid would entitle to the league title if it
had not been completed.
“We are behind Barcelona with just two points, and if
they decide to cancel the season and give Barcelona
the title, it is not fair,” Courtois said in an interview
with a Belgian station.
He added: “We tied with them and then defeated them
this season. We were the best party.”
He continued: “In the case of Liverpool, the situation is
completely different (if Liverpool is given the league
title) because the team leads very far from the runners-
up.
It is noteworthy that Real Madrid tied negatively with
Barcelona in the last stadium, before winning at home 2-
0 in the second leg, a week before the suspension of
the league.
The Belgian goalkeeper has expressed his desire to
complete the league competitions, despite the outbreak
of the Coronavirus, which stopped football matches
around the world.
Real Madrid will conduct tests of the Corona Virus on
all its players, in preparation for returning to training
next Monday, after obtaining the approval of the
Ministry of Health in Spain.
