Real Madrid snatched the top of the Spanish Football League
with a 2-1 win away to Real Sociedad, on Sunday, after a major
controversy in the second half.
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos led with a goal in the 50th
minute of a penalty awarded after Vinicius Jr. fell to the ground
after a joint ball with Diego Llorente of Sociedad.
Ramos has become the most scored defender in the history of
La Liga, after reaching the number of La Liga goals to the
number 68, to surpass the Dutchman Ronald Koeman,
the former Barcelona star who had the most record number
with 67 goals.
Sociedad thought he had leveled after Adnan Yanuzai’s shot
from outside the area, but the referee canceled the goal after
resorting to the assistant video referee due to the presence of
Mikel Merino on the way to see goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Sociedad’s feeling of injustice increased after one minute,
as Karim Benzema scored Real’s second goal in the 71st minute
after paving the ball to himself with his upper arm, but Merino
secured an exciting end to the meeting when he narrowed
the lead with a huge shot from close range in the 83rd minute..
Real Madrid equaled the points balance with the defending
champions Barcelona, each with 65 points after 30 rounds,
but he snatched the summit because of the preference in
the direct confrontation, and Sociedad comes sixth with
47 points.
