Rome settled with a goalless draw with its host Verona, at the
opening of the Serie A soccer club, on Saturday, while the
capital’s team enters a new era under the leadership of the
American group Fredkin, which acquired the club last month.
Verona scored a goal frame at each half, while Roma performed
modestly under the watchful eyes of its billionaire owner Dan
Friedkin and his son Ryan.
Despite that, Leonardo Sebnazola nearly snatched the victory
for Roma near the end, but his long-range shot rebounded off
the crossbar.
The government of the Veneto region allowed up to 1,000
spectators to attend, but Verona did not have time to sell tickets
and resorted to inviting a small group of friends and relatives
of the club’s staff.
