Wayne Rooney, former Manchester United striker, Alex
Ferguson blamed the loss of the Champions League final
against Barcelona in 2009 and 2011, because of what he
described as the “suicide plan” of the coach.
The current Derby County player said that Ferguson’s plan in
both finals of the Champions League, where Barcelona won
2-0 and 3-1, respectively, was bad.
“We lost two games in the Champions League final to Guardiola
with Barcelona when we tried to pressure high, which was a
suicide,” Rooney said in an interview with the British
“Sunday Times” newspaper.
He added: “I remember Alex Ferguson when he say (we are
Manchester United and we will attack, this is the culture of this
football club), and I thought and say to myself (I’m not very
sure about this),” the Spanish newspaper AS reported.
He continued: “I think that all the players were realizing that in
their hearts, it was a wrong way, that we gave up the way we
succeeded in 2008.”
Ronny crowned with the “Red Devils” Champions League
in 2008, after defeating Chelsea on penalties, but he lost against
the Catalan club in the final “Championship” in 2009 and 2011.
