Sony Exploits Bungie’s Expertise to offer High Quality Games
Some people find that Sony’s acquisition of Bungie Studio and keeping it independent in terms of the freedom to
issue his upcoming titles on various platforms, is strange. But Sony has a much deeper plan, the details
of which are now beginning to appear.
As you know, Sony wants to use studio experience to help drive basically live service games, as the company
intends to release 12 of them simultaneously by 2025. Currently, Sony is working independently on these games
within the plan to establish the infrastructure of PlayStation Studios, but intends to exploit all of Bungie’s studio
expertise after about one year where the deal is complete.
The goal is to create a new internal section called SIE Live Service Center of Excellence,
which can leverage all live service titles to ensure to take the best experiences into account.
that Bungie will retain its independence, so it will continue to release its own games across all other platforms,
the studio will have an active role in shaping the philosophy behind the live service projects that Sony
began to build.
Interestingly, the platform owner wants to learn from Bungie within three months of completing the deal,
so it is clear here that he greatly appreciates the design principles that helped shape and grow Destiny games. Eventually, they will task SIE Live Service Centre of Excellence with reviewing important aspects
such as monetization in both outgoing and upcoming addresses.
It is clear that a large part of the PlayStation audience is greatly concerned by this new approach to live service,
although it is important to remember that none of the games have been announced yet
which may be spectacular. Maintaining live service addresses is notoriously difficult,
so at least the company seems to take things seriously if this is the new model it intends to focus on.
We expect the first new live service projects from PlayStation to be unveiled during
the upcoming events this year.
