Southampton, the Premier League club, has said it has borrowed Japanese international Takumi Minamino
from champions Liverpool until the end of the season.
The attacking midfielder joined Liverpool in January last year from Austria’s Red Paul Salzburg for 7.25 million
pounds (9.93 million dollars).
Minamino has participated in 31 games in all competitions for Liverpool, scoring four goals.
Southampton coach Ralph Hasenhotel said that the 26-year-old Minamino, who has played 26 caps for Japan,
would provide a good attacking option for his team in the second half of the season.
“I am very happy that Minamino has joined our squad for the rest of the season,” Hasenhotel told the club’s website.
“This will give us some additional depth in our squad at an important time, and I look forward to starting to
work with him in training,” he added.
Southampton also confirmed that striker Shane Long had moved on loan to second-tier Bournemouth until
the end of the season.
Defender Jan Valerie will also play in the second division until the end of the season after being loaned
to Birmingham City.
Southampton, who are 11th, travel to Manchester United in the league later on Tuesday.
