England striker Raheem Sterling confirmed his departure from Manchester City
in an emotional message to the club’s fans on Wednesday, amid expectations of
a move to local rival Chelsea.

Sterling played 225 in the Premier League with City and scored 91 goals in
the competition after joining from Liverpool in 2015, according to Reuters.
In a statement on Twitter, he said: “To the coaching staff who have played a huge
role in my development over the years, to my team-mates who have become more
than just people I play with, to the management staff and fans who have tirelessly
supported the team… To all those associated with Manchester City, my respect
for you is beyond anything else. something”.
Sterling, 27, won the league title 4 times with City, along with the FA Cup once
and the League Cup 4 times, and he played the 2021 Champions League final,
but lost to Chelsea.
He added, “What a journey, I’m grateful for all the ups and downs, the times of
failure tested my strength and helped me rise before you and present the best
version of me. I arrived in Manchester when I was 20 years old, and today I leave
as a man, thanks for the eternal support, it was an honor to wear Manchester City shirt”
according to Reuters.
Sterling, who leaves Manchester City one year ago with his contract, did not mention
Chelsea in his statement, but local media reported that he had reached an agreement
with the London club.
Sterling’s departure from Man City comes a few days after the departure of his
Brazilian teammate, Gabriel Jesus, who moved to the London club Arsenal.
