After speculation that Barcelona wanted to sign Liverpool
player Jorginho Wijnaldum, press reports said that England
champion “priced” the star of his midfield by about 18 million
euros (15 million pounds).
The new Dutch coach of Barcelona, Ronald Koeman, confirmed
his desire to bring in his compatriot, who contributed greatly to
Liverpool’s 2019 Champions League and English Premier
League titles last season.
According to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, Liverpool
administration informed its counterpart in the Catalan club that
it could obtain the services of the 29-year-old player, for a
reduced price of 15 million pounds.
Vinaldum’s current contract at Anfield expires at the end of next
season and there have been no reports yet of opening negotiations to renew it.
According to the “Daily Mail”, Liverpool decided to reduce the
price of Vinaldom to benefit from it financially, instead of
losing his services for free by the expiration of his contract in July 2021.
Coman is seeking to strengthen his team’s midfield after the
departure of Ivan Rakitic to his former club Seville, amid odds
that Arturo Vidal will leave for Inter Milan before the summer
transfer market closes.
Wijnaldum played in his country for Feyenoord and Eindhoven,
before moving to the English Premier League to Newcastle
United, where he played with him one season and then moved
to the Reds in 2016, knowing that he has an international record
of 63 matches for the Netherlands national team, during which
he scored 18 goals.
Coman, the former Barcelona star, faces a difficult task to
advance the injured team, which left a disastrous season without
any championships, in an incident that has not happened since 2007.
