The French sports newspaper, L’Equipe, revealed that Lionel Messi’s
private plane made 52 flights in just three months, and emit 1,502 tons of carbon dioxide.
According to the newspaper, the plane made 52 flights from June 1 to
August 31, 30 of which were transcontinental, and 14 were transatlantic,
causing high levels of carbon emissions in just 3 months, according to
the report published by the French magazine L’Equipe.
Messi .. and the threat to the environment
According to the calculations, Messi’s flights in his private jet put out as much
gas into the atmosphere as an average French citizen would produce in 150 years.
Messi traveled between Buenos Aires in Argentina and Miami 5 times overall.
There were also 3 flights between Montevideo, Uruguay, and Miami, Florida,
on June 10, June 22 and June 23.
Messi also made a trip between Sao Paulo, Brazil, and New York City, USA.
Transcontinental and cross country
Messi has also made trips to and from Brazil, with many flights between
Europe and South America.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward also flew either to or from Barcelona
7 times throughout the Ligue 1 season.
The trips also included trips to Tenerife, Bilbao, Nice and Figari.
The news comes at a time of heightened warnings about climate change,
amid calls to do more to take care of the planet.
