After a tug of war, German star Mesut Ozil finally reached an agreement with his English club Arsenal
to terminate his contract with immediate effect.
According to British sources, Ozil’s trip with the “Gunners” officially ended, Saturday, after 7 and a half seasons,
as it was agreed between the player and the club management to end the contract.
Ozil is expected to move to Fenerbahce, the club that Ozil announced his intention to join, being the club that
encouraged him in childhood, when he was living in Germany.
Arsenal will get rid of Ozil’s hefty salary of 350,000 pounds a week, or the equivalent of 390,000 euros, which
has cost the club’s treasury nearly 17 million pounds a year.
According to the site “Athletic”, Arsenal would have paid the amount of 7 million pounds sterling to the player
if he kept him until next summer, which represents a heavy financial burden on the club.
Ozil had said a few days ago: “I grew up to encourage Fenerbahce when I was a child in Germany. Every person
of Turkish origin in Germany supports two Turkish clubs. For me this club was Fenerbahce. It is like Real Madrid in Spain, it is the biggest club in Turkey.” .
Ozil has struggled at Arsenal since the departure of French coach Arsene Wenger in 2018 when he excluded from the team by the coaches who trained the “Gunners”.
