Cristiano Ronaldo may have to wait several more days before
trying to score his 100th goal for Portugal, after suffering a foot
injury that raised doubts about his country’s participation in his
country’s match at home with Croatia in the European Football
League on Saturday.
Ronaldo is Portugal’s top scorer throughout the ages and the
country’s most capped player in international matches, but his
goals stopped at 99 10 months ago, since he scored in the 2-0
home win over Luxembourg in Portugal’s last international match.
“There are doubts about his joining the match,” coach Fernando
Santos told reporters. “Ronaldo trained well on Monday and
Tuesday, but on Wednesday he complained of a pain in a toe.”
He added, “It looked like a bee sting, but it turned out to be an
infection. He was treated with antibiotics and it seems that he
has returned to normal, but we still have to evaluate his condition,”
according to “Reuters”.
Europe has not witnessed any international matches since
November due to the Corona epidemic that caused the 2020
European Championship to be postponed until next year.
The 35-year-old is hoping to become only the second player to
score 100 goals at the international level after Iran’s Ali Daei.
It is worth noting that Portugal’s next match will be away from
home against Sweden next Tuesday
